James Toseland will be racing to keep his job in the British MotoGP at Donington.
Toseland, Britain's only representative in the blue ribbon division of motorcycle racing, fears a lack of results may cost him his ride with the Yamaha Tech 3 team.
The 28-year-old former World Superbike champion said: "This weekend could be the difference between me having a job in 2010 or not. I want to stay in MotoGP. I haven't shown my potential but I believe I deserve to be with the best of the best and that I can be competitive."
After a promising MotoGP debut in 2008, when he scored six top-six finishes, Toseland has struggled this year and is 14th in the title chase with 45 points, 38 behind team-mate Colin Edwards and well in arrears of leader Valentino Rossi, of Italy, who has 176 points on his works Fiat Yamaha.
Britain has a better chance in the 125GP division in which Bradley Smith, 18, is challenging for the title and 16-year-old Scott Redding will be out to repeat his Donington victory last summer, when he was the youngest rider to win a Grand Prix.
