Abou Diaby is desperate to prove his fitness and play an important role for Arsenal this season.
The midfielder missed most of last season with a serious knee problem and wants to force his way back into Arsene Wenger’s plans.
Diaby’s career has been blighted by injuries but the Frenchman is now targeting a return to full fitness.
“On a personal level I am feeling good,” said Diaby, 28. “I am still working hard to get my fitness back and so far things are going well. My aim now is complete my pre-season and then be ready to play.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to complete the £16million signing of Southampton defender Calum Chambers.

The 19-year-old will provide competition for Mathieu Debuchy at right-back following Bacary Sagna’s move to Manchester City. Wenger admits he has taken a gamble by spending so much money on a player with just 18 Premier League starts.
“English players on the market in England are very expensive and at the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is a player for the future,” said the Arsenal manager.
“He can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in his three positions.”
