Evening Standard Comment: Hope for Hammersmith Bridge, but time to sort it out once and for all

There may be some respite for residents and commuters in west London, with the announcement that a £6m funding package for a new programme of “stabilisation works” for Hammersmith Bridge have been approved.

The bridge has been open to cyclists and pedestrians since last month, but remains closed to motor vehicles.

We have long called for urgent action to unblock this vital artery. It is crucial that the Government, local council and TfL come together in the best interests of Londoners, to ensure the costs of a full restoration of the bridge is sorted once and for all.
